'Bergen Harbour' (2017)
'This photo was suggested to me to paint- I think it was a good suggestion! A lot of my earlier works were architectural in subject. Even before travelling to Scandinavia I found these landscapes very interesting and odd. To an Australian these multicoloured, narrow, steep roofed buildings are not common place. They are instead instantly recognisable to anyone who has ventured north of Europe. I find these subjects exciting but difficult to paint as they are packed with detail and precision that requires a lot of patience! They are a good exercise for me. This one is a warm addition to a room full of deep colours that complement its hues.'
